John Ehlers' Hilbert Transform Instantaneous Trendline applies signal-processing math to strip the dominant cycle out of price, leaving the underlying trend component. Where a moving average smooths blindly, this line knows the market's current cycle length and removes exactly that.

How It Works

• The Hilbert Transform estimates the dominant cycle period in real time.
• Price is filtered to remove that cycle, exposing the residual trend.
• The output is a low-lag trendline that adapts as the cycle changes.

How to Trade It

Use price crossing the trendline as an adaptive trend signal, or measure price's oscillation around it to time entries within the trend: buy cycle lows above a rising trendline. It pairs naturally with cycle oscillators like the Even Better Sinewave.
