The Fast Stochastic is the stochastic oscillator before the smoothing: raw %K (close's position in the recent range) with only a short %D average. Everything the slow version eventually says, this says several bars sooner — with proportionally more noise.

How It Works

  • %K = position of close in the N-bar high-low range, unsmoothed.
  • %D = short SMA of %K, used for crossovers.
  • Reacts to range-position changes essentially in real time.

How to Trade It

Use it where speed is the entire point: scalping triggers, quick re-entry timing inside established trends, or exit warnings when raw %K collapses from 90+ while slower tools still look fine. Always behind a regime filter — raw %K in chop is noise.

Building It in Setup.Cash

Add Fast Stochastic in the strategy builder — the length input controls its sensitivity — and use its value in any entry, exit, or filter condition. You can also combine it with other tools in the Indicators Lab or via the AI indicator generator. See the standard Stochastic and Stochastic RSI. For the full category overview, see the advanced momentum library guide.

Momentum signals are timing tools — combine them with a trend or regime filter and backtest the exact rules before going live.
