Know Sure Thing (KST) Indicator Explained

Martin Pring's Know Sure Thing (KST) sums four smoothed rate-of-change readings — short, medium, long, and very long — weighted toward the longer horizons. It's a momentum indicator built deliberately for major swings: the big turns that matter to position traders.

How It Works

• Four ROC periods (classically 10/15/20/30) are each smoothed, then weighted 1-2-3-4.
• The long-horizon weighting filters out minor swings automatically.
• A signal line (9-period SMA of KST) provides crossover triggers.

How to Trade It

Trade KST/signal-line crosses for swing entries and the zero line for regime. Its specialty is the turn after divergence at major highs and lows — on weekly charts KST has a long record as a cycle-turn tool. Too slow for scalping; that's the point.
