The Absolute Price Oscillator (APO) is the plain difference between a fast and slow EMA — MACD without the signal line ceremony. The value is in price units: an APO of 0.0025 on EURUSD literally means the fast average sits 25 pips above the slow one.
How It Works
- EMA(fast) − EMA(slow), plotted around zero.
- Positive and rising = trend gaining separation; shrinking = convergence.
- Price-unit output maps directly onto pip/point-based reasoning.
How to Trade It
APO zero-crosses are EMA crossovers by definition — but its magnitude adds a dimension: require APO beyond a minimum gap so you only trade separations that clear costs and noise. Its price-unit scale makes threshold intuition easy on your home market.
Building It in Setup.Cash
Add Absolute Price Oscillator (APO) in the strategy builder — the length input controls its sensitivity — and use its value in any entry, exit, or filter condition. You can also combine it with other tools in the Indicators Lab or via the AI indicator generator. For a cross-symbol version, use the PPO instead. For the full category overview, see the advanced momentum library guide.
Momentum signals are timing tools — combine them with a trend or regime filter and backtest the exact rules before going live.
