The Percentage Price Oscillator (PPO) is MACD divided by the slow EMA and multiplied by 100 — momentum expressed as a percentage of price. A PPO of 1.5 means the same thing on EURUSD, gold, or Bitcoin, which raw MACD values never do.
How It Works
- ((EMA fast − EMA slow) / EMA slow) × 100.
- Signal line and histogram work exactly as in MACD.
- Values are comparable across symbols and across time.
How to Trade It
Use PPO anywhere you'd use MACD, but exploit the normalization: one strategy with fixed PPO thresholds can scan a whole basket of pairs — essential for multi-instrument bots. Historical PPO extremes also define meaningful overbought/oversold levels per symbol.
Building It in Setup.Cash
Add Percentage Price Oscillator (PPO) in the strategy builder — the length input controls its sensitivity — and use its value in any entry, exit, or filter condition. You can also combine it with other tools in the Indicators Lab or via the AI indicator generator. The PVO applies the same idea to volume. For the full category overview, see the advanced momentum library guide.
Momentum signals are timing tools — combine them with a trend or regime filter and backtest the exact rules before going live.
