True Momentum Oscillator (TMO) Indicator Explained

The True Momentum Oscillator (TMO) scores each bar by where the close sits relative to recent opens, then double-smooths the sum. The open-based framing captures intraday conviction — is the market consistently finishing above where it starts? — rather than close-to-close drift.

How It Works

• Each close is compared against the window of recent opens and scored.
• The score is double-EMA smoothed and bounded with a signal line.
• Extremes mark stretched momentum; midline crossings mark shifts.

How to Trade It

Trade TMO/signal crosses out of the extreme zones for swing entries, and treat opposite-colored extremes (price high while TMO rolls over) as fade warnings. Its open-based math makes it a nice diversifier alongside close-based oscillators in a composite score.
