Price-Volume (PVOL) is simply price × volume per bar — turnover, the money that actually changed hands. Volume alone equates a $5 stock's million shares with a $500 stock's; PVOL doesn't. It's the honest measure of how much capital moved.
How It Works
- Close × volume per bar (optionally signed by direction).
- Directly comparable across price levels and history.
- The building block of dollar-volume liquidity filters.
How to Trade It
Use PVOL to gate tradability — require average turnover above a floor before a symbol qualifies for your system — and to weight signals: a breakout carrying record PVOL has institutional participation by definition. It's plumbing, and portfolio bots need it.
Building It in Setup.Cash
Add Price-Volume (PVOL) in the strategy builder — the length input controls its sensitivity — and use its value in any entry, exit, or filter condition. You can also combine it with other tools in the Indicators Lab or via the AI indicator generator. Feed it into a Volume MA-style baseline for relative turnover. For the full category overview, see the volume indicators library guide.
Volume tools need volume data, so they shine on crypto and stocks. Backtest on the exact symbols and feed you plan to trade.
