Price Volume Trend (PVT) fixes OBV's bluntest edge: OBV adds all of a bar's volume whether price moved 0.01% or 3%. PVT adds volume scaled by the percent change — big moves contribute proportionally, tiny drifts barely register.

How It Works

  • Running sum of volume × (close change %) per bar.
  • A 2% up day on heavy volume moves PVT far more than a flat day.
  • Read like OBV: trend, divergence, and breakout confirmation.

How to Trade It

Use PVT wherever OBV feels noisy: its magnitude-weighting suppresses the drift-day static that OBV accumulates. Divergence at highs (price up, PVT flat) is the marquee signal — the advance is happening on small, thin pushes.

Building It in Setup.Cash

Add Price Volume Trend (PVT) in the strategy builder — the length input controls its sensitivity — and use its value in any entry, exit, or filter condition. You can also combine it with other tools in the Indicators Lab or via the AI indicator generator. See OBV for the classic and A/D for close-location weighting. For the full category overview, see the volume indicators library guide.
